Scores of guests posed for photos next to Barack Obama at a celebration of American Democrats on the night of the new US President’s inauguration.
Unfortunately, Mr Obama could not make a personal appearance at the event at Dubai Yacht Club on Tuesday, but a cardboard cut-out of the man was still enough to draw a small crowd.
Just over 200 guests attended the event and according to Democrats Abroad chairman Chris Hansen, the event was twice oversubscribed.
Among the guests was Jack Carter, son of former US President Jimmy Carter, in Dubai for business.
Both Republicans and Democrats rubbed shoulders with no noticeable animosity under as much red, white and blue iconography as the organisers could muster in this corner of the world…SOURCE

I am pleased to let everyone know that we are now an official country committee of Democrats Abroad. As such, we now have full voting rights at international meetings and can participate more directly in DPCA events.
